Supporting Wildlife in our School Yard
Vision
Students were curious about who shared our school yard and how we could be good neighbours. We wanted to shift our relationship to one of respect where we shared this land and respected their needs as co-habitants of this land.
Action
Students researched which animals shared our schoolyard and learnt about ways we could support them through the addition of native plant species and people-made habitats. Bat houses, butterfly houses, bee and insect hotels were selected by students, assembled by students and installed in the school yard by students.
Reflection & Celebration
Students have really enjoyed assembling the bat, bird, butterfly and bee houses we purchased and planting the native plant species in our school garden. We can’t wait to observe wildlife move in to these spaces meant especially for them!
