Sustainable Food for All
Vision
Our project aligns with the fight against climate change by promoting sustainable practices, such as local food production. By educating students about the benefits of locally grown produce for the environment and teaching them how to grow their own healthy food, we aim to instill a sense of environmental responsibility from an early age.
Inspired by the pressing need to address food insecurity and promote sustainable living, our students are ready to take action with the full support of our staff. This project not only enriches our curriculum but also fosters a sense of community and empowerment among our students.
To our community, this project is vital as it provides practical solutions to local challenges while nurturing the next generation of environmentally conscious citizens.
Action
Our action plan started as the idea to revitalize and repair our small school greenhouse. This small dream grew quickly after students completed the LSF grant application. We applied to another grant in hopes of building a larger greenhouse to sustain more of our community by growing more vegetables, herbs, and medicinal plants.
For now we have purchased soil, trays, and seeds to begin our indoor and outdoor gardens of tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, basil, dill, calendula and other edible plants.
Students have been involved in all aspects of the action plan so far; dreaming & brainstorming the idea, applying for the grants, pricing supplies, transporting supplies, and planting seeds.
