Sustainable Food Production

Vision

Our goal is to teach students about sustainability through the use of hydroponics. Hydroponics allows us to grow healthy food all year round without the need for soil. Through learning about sustainability our students will learn how fragile our food network is living on an island. Our students will also learn about conserving water, the needs of living things, and the amount of work required to grow the produce that we take for granted.

Action

Teaching students about sustainability, giving them the knowledge to grow vegetables and herbs, and the information needed to make healthy choices will foster a climate of healthy choices. This project allows our students to produce their own food and cut out a large section of their carbon footprint. This information will allow them to become more food independent in a time of crisis if food was not able to be brought to the island for an extended period of time.
