Take Action to battle Climate Change

Vision

We wanted to raise awareness about several environmental issues contributing to climate change and ways to help minimize these. We ‘Took Action’ individually or in groups in a variety of ways, for example, we presented slideshows to our class, to other classes, raised awareness via the announcements and our weekly community update.

Action

-We used some of the grant money to buy Anti-Idling signs and they were put up around the school. There was already one in place but students felt that we needed more to help remind our community that idling is not encouraged.
-We are waiting to use the rest of our money to plant some native, pollinator/butterfly friendly bushes or plants around our school
-build bird house
-presented information about idling, pollution, composting, benefits of e-vehicles: to our class, other classes and our community – announcements, presenting to other classes, write up in our weekly school blast

Reflection & Celebration

These projects helped engage my students and make them feel that they are a part of the solution 🙂 They were able to choose their own topic and research it and share their findings which empowered them. They enjoyed the webinars and the learning.
