Taking a Lead on Community Waste Management

Vision

Our vision for Canada is to encourage young people to be entrepreneurial and create their own leadership opportunities with respect to sustainable development.

Action

Our team attended LSF’s Youth Leadership Forum in Halifax in November. From the speakers and workshops, we learned about sustainability topics and skills such as leadership and entrepreneurial skills. We became interested in harnessing this knowledge and using it to help us pursue Action Projects about the issues of plastic consumption, food accessibility, and other issues within the community. These things are important to us because they not only affect those who are near to our community, they affect the whole planet. To fix these issues, an action we could take is starting a compost program at our school. To do this, we’ll need to talk to our school’s staff and administration. We should also learn more about what happens to our waste after we dispose of it. We hope that by the end of the school year, we will have a compost system in place at our school.
