Trees for Climate Change
Vision
Our vision was to add to the help of climate change. We have a beautiful big and spacious yard with very little tree coverage. We wanted to add native trees to Ontario to our yard to help students with shade and do a small part in fighting climate change.
Action
My grade 6/7 students came together to help teach their kindergarten reading buddies the positive impact trees can have on climate change and why it’s important to respect nature. Students researched trees native to Ontario and we decided on Silver Maples. With our grant, we were able to secure 3 baby trees for our yard. The kindergartens will be able to see these trees grow through their academic careers at St. Andree.
Reflection & Celebration
After planting the trees in the yard we celebrated bringing a more sustainable climate to our school yard and the kindergarteners were wondering when they can plant more!
