Upcycle Project

Vision

Our Vision is to support students and help them divert waste from the landfill. Additionally, we teach students the importance of conserving resources and only taking/using what we need. Upcycle club helps to educate students about caring for our planet and gives back to our local community. Upcycle club fosters creativity and self-directed learning but allowing students to create art that is meaningful and interesting to them using recycled materials. Upcycle also provides an extracurricular art activity and helps to foster the school community, especially for students who don’t feel athletic or interested in athletic extracurriculars.

Action

Upcycle club had a weekly meeting where we used recycled objects to make crafts. Students were able to make a variety of projects and work alongside other kids that they may not regularly play with at recess. students worked together to make multimedia art projects to display at our school Christmas concert, they made animals to put on an interactive bulletin board that was put up in the school hallway, and they made recycled glass candles to sell as a fundraiser for the minnow lake community garden, a local organisation that empowers seniors to plan crops, and then donates the crops to the local foodbank.

Reflection & Celebration

The upcycle club has worked very hard this year to create a variety of crafts. This year two young leaders had the opportunity to present about our club to the school boards board of directors. We have also make plans to partner with other clubs to create our own community garden for next year. It is inspiring to be among such passionate, and enthusiastic students.
