Vision
Our vision is that schools across Ontario will embrace vermicomposting in their classrooms. We hope that they will recognize its effectiveness for waste reduction, along with its potential as a natural fertilizer for school yards. Also, schools can extend the effectiveness of vermicomposting through the brewing of compost tea.
Action
As a classroom we collected and shredded food scraps using a Green Cycler. Feeding the shredded scraps to our classroom vermicomposters made them much more effective (as worms can consume small sized scraps much faster). We harvested the vermicompost and used it to brew compost tea. This tea was then applied to our school field.
