Our visions was to educate students and staff on the importance of diverting food waste while learning the simplicity and benefits of creating compost within a small tote.


We had 10 totes that were vermicomposters and students brought in vegetable scraps along with our foods department setting aside vegetable scraps for our project.

Reflection & Celebration

Students were amazed at the care needed for the worms … moisture, darkness, food, etc. and took a real interest in maintaining them over a few month term. Some staff took the totes home, once it became challenging to maintain them in our classroom.
