Vermicomposting with the Climate Action Team

Vision

Our visions is to create a vermicompost for our school community. This will enable us to teach students about proper compost procedures, divert waste that is improperly disposed of, and create “liquid gold” to fertilize our school gardens.

Action

– Create a cost comparison of a few different Canadian companies
– Present our first choice to the school Principal
– Build our vermicompost
– Present to classes, while doing worm observations
– Collect compost to feed our worms weekly
– Collect “liquid gold” to add to our pollinator gardens

Reflection & Celebration

We have just started our project, successfully built our vermicompost bin and have started to feed our worms with food scraps collected from various classes. We presented a slideshow to 4 grade 2 classes who were very excited to do the follow up lesson on observing worms. We can’t wait for the “liquid gold” to fertilize our pollinator gardens.
