Holiday thrift exchange
Vision
The Holiday season is a time to show love and care for the people around us. We often show our love and care by buying gifts. This year Tantramar Regional High School will host a ‘Holiday Thrift Event’ instead! Students and community members will have the opportunity to find recycled and upcycled gifts that are ethical and sustainable! This action project will reduce the amount of new materials created. It will also provide opportunities for people to shop and find gifts regardless of their household income. Opening our ‘store’ to the wider community brings people together. Students will also create their own line of up- cycled clothing for the event, ‘TWC Flipwear’.
Action
TRHS will create a pop-up holiday thrift exchange where students and community members can donate used goods and then use the tickets they recieve to shop ethically for the holidays! The shop will be open during the first week of December 2025 and will not only have recycled and upcycled items for people to choose from, but it will also have stations for people to decorate, up- cycle and personalize the items they find! We will also have local artisans, work a focus on student-made products. Students will have ‘TWC flipwear’ available on site to show how clothing can be re-used and up- cycled.
Reflection & Celebration
Shoppers will have the opportunity to rate their experience and provide feedback to make this event even better for future years! TRHS students will organize and run the event, providing valuable experience in community organizing.
