Clean and Beautify Action Plan

Vision

After attending the Youth forum at Science World in Vancouver, the students were excited to form an Environmental Sustainability Club. Students made signs to announce the formation of the new club and to sign up students interested in joining. We established a weekly meeting time and named it “Dickens Green Team.”

After discussing litter and recycling concerns at our school, the students decided on an action project to clean up our school grounds and make them beautiful by planting pollinating flowers and growing food.

Action

Our Plan of Action:
1. Raise awareness of the increasing amount of garbage surfacing in our playground and our responsibility to take of our grounds and beautiful school. – Students went on a photoshoot using an iPad to document what they saw around the school grounds.

2. Educate students at our school about recycling and disposing of waste. Created a presentation at 2 Assemblies:
• Litter-less lunch
• Garbage and recycling and compost bins

3. Take responsibility for caring for our playground and beautiful school by picking up litter and disposing of it sustainably. Invite all grades K-7 to participate during recess and lunch.

Reflection & Celebration

The students were very enthusiastic to form the Green Team Club to raise awareness of the growing litter problem in our playground. Members attended meetings and work sessions, made posters and educated the school about proper recycling and compost bin usage at 3 school assemblies. Members also helped to organize and assist with grounds clean up.

We will have a pizza party in June, including making a salad from our vegetable garden to celebrate our efforts.
