Clean-Up Day

Vision

The goal of the Clean-up Day organized by the Environmental Council at St. Robert is to promote environmental stewardship within the community, educate students about the importance of properly sorting their trash, and reduce personal waste. By participating in this event, we hope to create a positive school culture and encourage students to adopt environmentally-friendly habits.

Action

The Clean-up Day was a student-led event aimed at promoting environmental stewardship within the community, educating students about the importance of properly sorting their trash, and reducing personal waste.

Planning for the event began in the weeks leading up to April 21st. To ensure that the event ran smoothly and safely, the Environmental Council had to submit a proposal to the school administration and obtain approval before proceeding with the event. The proposal outlined the goals and objectives of the event, the anticipated number of participants, and the measures that would be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved. Once the proposal was approved, the Environmental Council proceeded with the planning process, working closely with teachers and janitors to organize the logistics of the event. Supplies such as garbage bags and gloves were sourced, and the route was mapped out. Permission forms were sent out to parents, and arrangements were made to transport students to and from the park.

On the day of the event, 40 students and 3 teachers gathered at the school. The event began with a walk to Livingstone Park from 2:40 pm to 2:55 pm. Once there, students spent 30 minutes, from 2:55 pm to 3:25 pm, picking up litter in the park and the surrounding area. The students then walked back to St. Robert from 3:25 pm to 3:40 pm, completing the event.

The students were divided into groups and assigned different areas to clean up. Half of the students were tasked with cleaning the school grounds and field, while the other half were cleaning the path to Livingstone Park. They were equipped with garbage bags and gloves, and they made their way through the park and nearby areas, picking up litter and waste. The students worked together, sharing tips and strategies for making the clean-up process more efficient. They also learned about the impact of littering on the environment and the importance of properly sorting waste.

Throughout the event, the students were supervised by volunteer teachers, who provided guidance and support. They also ensured that the event ran smoothly and safely. The students were enthusiastic and engaged throughout the event, and they took pride in making a positive impact on the environment.

The Clean-up Day served as a hands-on learning opportunity for the students. They learned about waste management, recycling, and composting. They also gained valuable volunteer experience and hours. The event fostered a sense of responsibility among students, encouraging them to adopt environmentally-friendly habits.

After the event, the Environmental Council collected data on the amount of litter and waste that was collected. They found that 9 full bags were collected, making a significant impact on the community. The event also received a lot of positive feedback from the students who participated, and there is a strong possibility that the event will be organized again next year. Looking forward, the Clean-up Day serves as a reminder of the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainability. By organizing events like this, the St. Robert community can make a significant impact on the environment and promote positive school culture.
