Garden Beds for Food Sustainability

Vision

We are teaching our students the importance of food sustainability and sourcing food locally by planting or connecting with the local farms in our rural area. The vision is to empower students at a young age, teaching them how to grow their own food, how to collaborate with local growers and how to share the harvest with local organizations that ensure food security.

Action

They initially worked on adapting the space to build the garden beds by removing weeds and rocks and tilting the soil. Then, they built the garden beds agreeing on a well-prepared layout, they have added the soil, and lastly, they have planted the seeds and seedlings – fruit trees, squashes, beans, herbs, mix greens.

Reflection & Celebration

The students successfully collaborated with community members in creating the garden beds project. They have worked in harmony, keeping in mind the vision and mission of the project, and we are all waiting for the big harvest!
