Our vision for Canada is for all youth to have access to an experiential learning experience in the garden. An environment where all students have the opportunity to take part in all aspects of gardening and improve there overall desire and ability to learn. Our vision is for all students to gain the knowledge and skills they need to become less reliant on grocery stores for food, to eat more nutritious fruit & vegetables and to become good environmental stewards.
Over the past year Bronco’s Blooming Community Garden started a community / school garden. Students at the school took part in all stages of garden development. Students are exposed to all aspects of gardening, develop a love for gardening and develop knowledge and skills they need to garden independently from the school. Solar powered water pumps teach students about alternative energy sources and composting teaches children about being good environmental stewards. This year’s garden project, with the addition of a greenhouse, will expose all students and the community to a completely sustainable garden experience. Members will have access to healthier fruit & vegetables, the environment will be cleaner and the community will become more engaged with one another.
Reflection & Celebration
The garden continues to develop but we can celebrate that a three-year project has been completed in just 14 months. We are celebrating the partnerships that we have made in the community and will have a community room in our garden by the fall of 2019.
Our greenhouse will be ready for use in the fall of 2019 as well.
Looking back we would look for more committed volunteers to make the work less tiring for the few committed community members. The garden plans to sell starter plants at a reduced cost compared to nurseries as a means to ensure the garden is sustainable for many years.
