Indoor Garden Project

Vision

We want to grow fresh produce in our school using an indoor growing system. Student’s who do not have a lunch at school often are given packaged foods to eat. We want to try and eliminate some of the waste produce by these packaged foods by growing produce in our own school. We also want to choose a sustainable method of growing indoors that doesn’t encourage transportation. By growing food in our own school, we can reduce our carbon footprint.

Action

With a grant from Learning for a Sustainable Future, we were able to partially pay for an indoor growing system called the Tower Garden. We were able to grow lettuce inside our school for the first time ever. With the produce harvested so far, we were able to provide lunches to those who needed them, and had the opportunity to give a salad lunch to a few classes.

Reflection & Celebration

We celebrated and shared our success and social media. Students were excited to see the garden grow indoors and also to get a salad lunch.
