Mary Ward Catholic School Pollinator Funding
Vision
To design and plant a garden that includes pollinator plants to help reestablish a declining population of pollinators such as monarchs, honeybees, etc. Most plants will be native to North America, and cultivars of nature plants also follow guidelines for sustainable landscaping. Plants will be low maintenance.
Action
We collaborated with students from Niagara College to help with the design of the gardens. Once the design was completed, the plants were purchased, and on May 17th, the planting was completed by the School ECO team with the guidance of Mrs. Dena Gavin. The project was a huge success, and as you can see from the pictures, the garden looks wonderful.
Reflection & Celebration
The ECO team developed their skills with planting. They learned that planting pollinator plants is a great way to support the environment and promote biodiversity. The experience also taught the students the importance of giving back to the environment.
