Medicinal Plants and Their Benefits

Vision

Teaching people about what they can forage in the forest and surrounding areas and helping pollinators at the same time. Learning about medicinal plants and their properties and producing information for the community.

Action

Our class chose to do winter sowing and to research consumable plants, their uses and their benefits to us. We participated in an online workshop from GUEPE about the life cycle of trees, and had a visit from the local flower farm to explain the purposes of growing flowers in the region. We will be visiting the Ferme Pastel and Reford Gardens on 15th June, where we will learn about pollinators, plants, indigenous medicinal plants etc. We will complete our information booklets by the end of the school year for the community.

Reflection & Celebration

We will present our final document at the end of the year to the school and leave copies at the Heritage Network Libraries. Next year we will grow a salad bar and try to include medicinal plants and edible flowers.
