Our Green Earth

Vision

My vision for Canada is a country where we live in harmony with nature and take care of the land that takes care of us. I want to see more people learning how to grow their own food, planting trees, and protecting the animals and plants that live here. We should all work together to reduce waste, keep our air and water clean, and respect the land — especially the land cared for by Indigenous Peoples for thousands of years. I believe that when we treat the Earth with love, we help build a stronger, healthier Canada for everyone.

Action

1. Action: Start a class garden (indoors or outdoors).
Why: It helps us learn how food grows and teaches responsibility.
How:
Plant herbs, lettuce, or flowers in pots or garden boxes.
Take turns watering and checking the plants.
Talk about what plants need to stay healthy.

2. Protect Creatures Big and Small
Action: Learn about local animals and how to help them.
Why: Animals need clean, safe places to live.
How:
Make bug hotels or bird feeders.
Create posters about local animals and how to protect them.
Go on a nature walk and pick up litter (safely).

3. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Action: Sort waste properly in the classroom.
Why: It keeps trash out of nature and helps the Earth.
How:
Use labeled bins for garbage, recycling, and compost.
Bring reusable water bottles and containers.
Make crafts from recycled materials.

4. Eat With the Earth in Mind
Action: Learn where our food comes from.
Why: Knowing about food helps us make earth-friendly choices.
How:
Talk about fruits and veggies that grow in Canada.
Make a “Food Origins” map.
Grow something edible and taste it together!

5. Be a Nature Hero
Action: Share your learning and encourage others.
Why: Small actions inspire big change.
How:
Make Earth Day or Environment Week posters.
Present your garden or compost to another class.
Create a class pledge to protect the Earth.

Reflection & Celebration

Looking back on this project, I feel proud of what we’ve learned and accomplished. Exploring how to care for the environment and protect life on land has helped us see the importance of even the smallest actions. By learning how to grow food, sort waste properly, and take care of living things, we’ve shown that even young students can make a real difference.

Throughout our journey, we discovered that taking care of the Earth isn’t just about big changes — it’s also about the little choices we make every day. Whether it was planting seeds, reusing materials for crafts, or talking about ways to help animals, our class learned to be more thoughtful and respectful of the world around us.

This experience also reminded us of the importance of gratitude — for the land, for the food it gives us, and for the opportunity to learn from Indigenous knowledge keepers who have cared for the land long before us. We celebrate the ways we’ve grown, not just as learners, but as caretakers of our environment and community.

The best part? We had fun doing it! Watching our plants grow, noticing birds visiting our feeders, and celebrating Earth Week with our posters and pledges brought joy and connection to our classroom. We now feel more confident and inspired to keep learning and helping, one small action at a time.

Together, we’ve planted more than seeds in the soil — we’ve planted the values of respect, responsibility, and care for the planet we call home. And that’s something worth celebrating.
