Vision

Our school is located beside a river, so we see the effects of flooding and erosion firsthand. After learning more about how we could protect our riverbank from further erosion, and try to prevent flooding in our schoolyard, we decided to take action! We were also interested in planting trees for their ability to improve mental health, keep our city cool, and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Action

We researched what types of trees would work best for our situation, taking into account trees that would develop strong root systems to help sustain the riverbank, trees that would soak up lots of moisture through their roots, and trees that are indigenous to our area. We decided to purchase four new trees to plant in the riparian forest behind our school along the riverbank.

Reflection & Celebration

We will plant these trees together, and then celebrate afterwards with a time of sharing and a potluck!
