Pollinator Garden

Vision

We envision transforming the front of our school into a vibrant pollinator garden that serves as a living classroom, a community gathering space, and a sanctuary for bees, butterflies, and other essential pollinators. By planting native flowers, we aim to create a sustainable and beautiful environment that promotes biodiversity, supports local ecosystems, and inspires environmental stewardship among students and visitors. This garden will not only enhance the school’s curb appeal but also provide hands-on learning opportunities in science, ecology, and conservation for years to come.

Action

Students gathered research and information on pollinator gardens and plants they wanted to put in their garden. They made sure the plants were a variety to attract multiple species but also beatifying the front of the school. Working with Oakville Green and Conservation Halton the decided on the plants, designed the layout of the garden and learned how to properly plant and care for them. On May 24th students rolled up their sleeves and began planting the pollinator garden. Working in teams, they dug holes, carefully placed native flowering plants into the soil, and gently watered each one. Students then mulched the garden and now it is already growing fast and students can’t wait to start exploring and learning.
