Sustainability Project

Vision

To create a week dedicated to sustainability in the hopes of increasing awareness about how our daily actions can work to combat climate change.

Action

Working with students from our Youth in Philanthropy group, grade 10 Science and students from the Eco Club, we decided to organize a sustainability week for the entire student body at Murdoch Mackay! We started our week with an opportunity for students to make a personal pledge for a more sustainable future, handing out reusable water bottles in hopes of lowering our plastic consumption! We organized a documentary viewing of The Biggest Little Farm and led a discussion on sustainable farming practices! And we ended the week with completing a community clean-up and zero-waste BBQ, which was such a fun way to end the week of sustainability initiatives! Our goal with this project was to encourage our entire student body and community to think of ways to incorporate more sustainable living practices into daily life. Our students are passionate about sustainability and working to reduce climate change, so this was an excellent opportunity for them to take the lead and share this passion with others.
