TESS – Sustainable Fruit-Producing Shrubs/Plants

Vision

Our vision was to plant and care for some sustainable fruit-producing shrubs/plants that will not only benefit the birds and the bees when they bud but will also be used by students and neighbours for food. Learning how to grow food in the city and to continue sustaining it benefits many and teaches our students about locally available products as they can be grown in our climate and community.

Action

We used our grant funds to purchase blueberry, raspberry and strawberry plants and had our students plant them. We hope to be able to harvest some fruit next school year.

Reflection & Celebration

The students had fun digging and planting the plants. It was a social event allowing for some positive peer teamwork.
