Vermicomposting

Vision

In the grade 3 curriculum, our students learn about soil in the environment. We want to inspire students to take initiative and expose them to new ways in which they can help take care of the Earth. This project will be student-led, driven, and maintained!

Action

The living composter is located in our classroom and students are in charge of maintaining the soil environment and taking care of the worms. They must monitor the soil moisture, add food scraps, stir the soil to increase oxygen flow, and clean up the area afterwards. Taking care of the vermicomposter allows students to see firsthand how we are decreasing food waste and recycling fertile soil!

Reflection & Celebration

Our students love being involved in this initiative and we can’t wait to start it up again next year with the incoming Grade 3s!
