We Grow Food

Vision

Our vision for the eco project is to create a sustainable source of fresh vegetables to help reduce food insecurity within our school and local community. We recognize that many families face challenges in accessing healthy food, and we want to be part of the solution by growing what we can, right here at school. This project is also about building a culture of care—teaching students the importance of helping others, understanding where their food comes from, and developing a sense of responsibility toward the environment. Through this initiative, we hope to nurture not only plants but also compassion, awareness, and community connections.

Action

To bring our vision to life, we built two large planter boxes and planted a variety of vegetables, including beets, tomatoes, beans, and herbs. Students in Grades 3 and 4 were actively involved in every step of the process—they helped build the boxes, prepare the soil, and plant the seeds. Through this hands-on experience, they learned about gardening, food sustainability, and the importance of supporting those in need. The students will continue to care for the gardens as they grow, helping to ensure a successful harvest that can be shared with our school community.

Reflection & Celebration

Reflecting on our eco project, we are proud of what our school community has accomplished together. The students showed great enthusiasm and responsibility as they worked in the garden, and it was inspiring to see their excitement grow along with the plants. They took pride in contributing to something meaningful and learned valuable lessons about teamwork, sustainability, and helping others. We celebrate the hard work and dedication that went into building and planting our food gardens, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have. This project has brought our school closer together and reminded us of the power of small actions to make a big difference.
